Rome

10 tips

1. COMFORTABLE SHOES

Wear comfortable shoes, because you’ll have a lot of walking to do ( Rome is huge).

2. THIEVES

Be aware of your belongings, there are pocket thieves at every corner of the street (I personally saw one trying to snatch my friend’s wallet out of her purse, luckily, we noticed on time and prevent this from happening).

3. SKIP THE LINES

There are always big lines of people waiting outside the Colosseum (one of the main attractions), you can try to negotiate a price with the tour guides waiting outside that have a ” way” of getting you in faster and smoother -for approx. 30€ (including the information offered)

4. MAP OR SNAP

Buy a map, make sure you don’t miss anything. It’s easy to get lost in Rome, although, if you have a romantic partner, I encourage it 🙂

5. HAVE WINE AND PIZZA AND SPAGHETTI AND GELATO

Come on, you are on holiday, life itself should be an adventure of senses and discoveries, right?

Being always on diet it’s not cool, the society opinions change every decade now and then, being ourselves it’s the only way to keep it real. (Don’t miss the “stracciatella” flavoured ice cream, it’s one of the top 5 in Italy)

6. THROW A COIN at Trevi Fountain

Don’t forget to make a wish @ fontana di trevi. The legend says you’ll be back to Rome if u fly that coin in the fountain so make sure you do it.

7. VISIT THE VATICAN

It’s just there, inside Rome, so why not take a look?

The Pope (Pope Francis) is always around to bless the crowds and he seems like a nice guy.

8. CHESTNUTS

Don’t miss the baked chestnuts, especially in the cold season. What a treat !

9. ARCHITECTURE

Rome is really as they say, a “live museum”. Everywhere you turn you’ll be mesmerised by the beautiful buildings, statues, art. I would recommend a small pocket travel book guide, for a better understanding of the historical dimension and meaning of what your eyes are seeing.

10. ENJOY A real COFFEE

Maybe I should have started with this one, cause for sure you’ll need a lot of energy to explore all that Rome has to offer.

But it’s never too late to lay back, relax and enjoy la dolce vita with one of the famous Caffè Macchiato !

Good comments but I hope the chestnuts are better than what I had in Turkey. I had never had them before and they were everywhere. We got some and they were not good. You did not list what I liked the most about my trip to Rome which was the Coliseum and the Ruins just to its north. I still treasure those photos from that area.

Great tips for traveling through Rome. This post actually reminded me that I’ve been to Rome once…Although it’s easy to forget since I lost all the pictures from my trip there 😦

Awesome tips… Thanks! I was in Rome a few months back and yes, I had my map handy, visited Vatican, ate chestnuts, grabbed onto my bag all the time, wore Puma sneakers, enjoyed the amazing architecture et all!!! I didn’t manage to get inside Colosseum though! I was pretty much happy to have seen it from outside!

Handy tips indeed. Glad that I managed to throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain though I wish I had tried out the baked Chestnuts. . Will leave that for next time for sure.

I love Rome, I have been there 7 times! For the Colosseum, I have a better tip: buy your ticket from the Roman Forum, across the street, and you can skip the line as the ticket is valid for both attractions 🙂
